The riders came from as close as Decatur and as far away as Alpine.
There were 58 riders who rode the 10-mile trail through the beautiful Decatur Grasslands. The horses they rode were such various breeds as Arabians, Quarter Horses, Paints, Mustangs, Walking Horses, Missouri Fox trotters, Pintos, horses with no pedigree— and even a mule.
Riders received a “sponsorship pledge” from neighbors, coworkers, friends and relatives to “sponsor” them on the ride. They all rode so that the money raised can benefit the special needs riders who use the services provided by the SpiritHorse Therapeutic Riding Center.
The SpiritHorse Program participants had their own special trail that they rode at the main staging area in the facility. Participants also took pledges for their time in the saddle. The SpiritHorse riders showing off their skills with the help of the dedicated staff, volunteers and family members were Austen Quick, Becca Williams, Robert Rison, Esmeralda Escalante, Jennifer Penny, Kylee Robertson, Noah Mortimer, Matthew Graham and Jonathan Cooper.
