Meet Candidate Steve Dixon

As a Flower Mound small business owner, family man and resident, Planning & Zoning Commissioner Steve Dixon says he’s the right candidate for Place 2 on the Flower Mound Town Council.

“I’m from around here. I’m a Texas boy. If you took a picture of a typical Flower Mound family, we’re it, a husband, a wife and two kids. And that’s why I think I’m so in tune with the average Flower Mounder, because I am them,” he said.

“During my service on Planning & Zoning, my observation is that we should have more communication between the Town Council and the boards and commissions,” Dixon said.

“Town Council is responsible for creating a vision and establishing a vision for the town. They are also responsible for effectively communicating that vision to town staff and to Flower Mound’s boards and commissions that also serve Flower Mound. If I were there, I would help Town Council get along better and work more effectively with each other.”

Dixon is running for Place 2 against incumbent Al Filidoro Jr., appointed by council after former council member Paul Stone resigned the position in October 2007. Filidoro announced his candidacy for the Place 2 council seat on Feb. 11. Flower Mound residents will elect council members for Place 2, Place 4 and the mayor on May 10.

Dixon, if elected, would like to develop a balance for prospective businesses while maintaining Flower Mound’s distinctive characteristics through reviewing applications of prospective businesses on a case-by-case basis.

“Flower Mound should not be cookie-cutter. If it makes sense, let’s consider it. If at the end of the process, if it does not work, all sides should be able to say we agree to disagree, and we all walk away friends,” Dixon said. This approach leaves the door open for future projects to come to town, he added.

“I’ve been blessed with the support that I have been receiving from the people in Flower Mound,” Dixon said. “It’s been great. They’re telling me ‘You have my vote and what I can do to support you.’” That has been encouraging, Dixon added.
