The Argyle High School volleyball team got off to a good start in the playoffs last Tuesday night by defeating Paris North Lamar 3-1 at Sherman High School.
Argyle battled to a 27-25 victory in game one and cruised to a 25-17 victory in game two.
North Lamar rebounded in game three with a 25-22 win, but the Eagles put it away in game four with a 25-22 clincher.
This was the first playoff win for the Argyle volleyball team as a 3A program, as the team lost to Borger last school year in bi-district and lost to Canyon in 2006 in the opening match.
The Eagles advanced to the area round with the victory over Paris North Lamar, (and defeated (team) on Tuesday night to move on to the regional quarterfinals/but lost to (team) on Tuesday night to bring the Eagles' season to an end.)
Argyle Cross-Country Team Makes Clean Sweep
The loss of one of the state's strongest runners last year could have been devastating for the Argyle cross-country team this season, but Saturday proved that was not the case.
Kristie Krueger graduated from Argyle High School last school year and is running for the University of Georgia these days, but her successors at AHS picked up right where she left off by winning regional championships on both the boys and girls sides on Saturday in Arlington.
Stephen Curry finished second overall on the boys side with a time of 15:37.0 in the three-mile and Jake Roberts finished eighth overall with a time of 16:37.1 to lead the way for the Eagles on the boys side.
Argyle had an average time of 16:42.12 in the boys competition, more than eight seconds better than second place Lucas Lovejoy.
On the girls side, Colbea Harris also finished in second place overall with a time of 11:24.5 in the two-mile, and Dixie Kurrus finished in seventh place with a time of 12:26.0 to lead the way for the girls.
The Argyle girls finished with an average time of 12:48.20, more than 16 seconds better than second place Lovejoy once again.
Argyle Loses Season Finale
The Argyle football team lost its season finale 35-13 to Celina last Friday night, but had already sewn up a playoff spot with a victory against Gainesville the week before.
The Bobcats got out to a 21-0 half-time lead, before the Eagles broke through on a 21-yard touchdown pass from Chad Hedlund to Brady Brown to cut Celina's lead to 14 points in the third.
Celina scored twice more in the second half, before Hedlund hooked up with Lance Sutton on a 5-yard touchdown pass.
